The Spark of a Dream

When I was 13, I participated in The Voice Kids Cambodia. It was a thrilling experience, but what caught my attention the most wasn’t just the stage or the audience—it was a beautiful advertisement of a Korean cabin crew. The elegance, grace, and professionalism of the cabin crew fascinated me. I remember asking my aunt to take a picture of me standing beside the ad, and as she clicked the photo, I told her, “One day, I’ll become a cabin crew.” At that time, I had no idea how I would achieve it—I was just a 13-year-old girl with a big dream.
The Journey Begin
Like any other kid, I continued with school, focusing on my studies and working hard. My dedication paid off, as I consistently ranked as an outstanding student from primary school through to high school. I was determined to excel in everything I did, but that dream of becoming a cabin crew member never left my mind.
At 16, I took part in Miss Cambodia. It was a wonderful experience that taught me so much and shaped me into the woman I am today. But even then, the dream of becoming a cabin crew was still very much alive.
Taking the Leap
The Interview Day
Standing in line from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., I was exhausted, but I kept my spirits high. When it was finally my turn, the HR team looked at my resume and photo and told me there was an issue with the picture. My heart sank, but just as I was losing hope, they told me to go print a new one, and they would wait for me.
In a bit of a panic, I hurried to find a photo shop. While riding in a tuk-tuk, I kept looking out the window, and to my relief, I found a photo shop just in time. After getting my photo printed, I rushed back to the AirAsia office at the airport and handed in my new picture. I rejoined the line, waiting anxiously for my interview.
As I stood there, I noticed the AirAsia crew members approaching me with big smiles. They groomed me, fixed my hair, and even offered me water and snacks. I was both surprised and grateful for their kindness. Before I knew it, they told me it was my turn for the interview.
Despite my aching feet and growling stomach, I took a deep breath, put on my best smile, and confidently answered all their questions. When the interview was over, I felt a sense of accomplishment. Regardless of the outcome, I was proud of myself for taking action toward my dream.
